BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA: SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codified in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 1-317d of Title 63, unless there is created a duplication in numbering , reads as follows: A. When the death of an infant occurs in this state and the cause of death is considered undetermined , a medical examiner shall conduct a sudden unexplained infant death investigation (SUIDI) not more than forty-eight (48) hours after the death has occurred. The medical examiner or a medical examiner investigator currently certified by the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators shall interview the parent, legal guardian or caregiver of, or SENATE FLOOR VERSION - SB95 SFLR Page 2 (Bold face denotes Committee Amendments) 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 person who last had contact with, the deceased infant and shall fill out the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s SUIDI reporting form accordingly. The State Department of Health shall retain a copy of each completed SUIDI reporting form in order to compile accurate and reliable da ta on SUIDI to aid and i nform the policies of the Department, and the Department shall provide a copy of each completed SUIDI reporting form to the Child Death Review Board . B. As used in this section, “medical examiner” means the Chief Medical Examiner, the Deputy Chief Medical Examin er or a medical examiner appointed by the Chief Medical Examiner pursuant to S ection 937 of Title 63 of the Oklahoma Stat utes.
