AS INTRODUCED
A Joint Resolution directing the Secretary of State
to refer to the people f or their approval or
rejection a proposed amendment t o Section 1 of
Article XIII of the Oklahoma Constitution; modifying
duty of Legislature to establish a syst em of free
public schools; providing ballot title; and directing
filing.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES O F THE
1ST SESSION OF THE 58TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
SECTION 1. The Secretary of State shall refer to the people for
their approval or rejection, as and in the man ner provided by law,
the following proposed amendment to Section 1 of Article XIII of the
Oklahoma Constitution to read as follows:
Section 1. The A general diffusion of knowledge being essential
to the preservation of the liberties and rights of the peo ple, it
shall be the duty of the Legislature shall of the State to establish
and maintain a make suitable provision for the support and
maintenance of an efficient and equitable system of free public
schools wherein all the children of the State may be educated.

SECTION 2. The Ballot Title for the proposed Constit utional
amendment as set forth in S ECTION 1 of this resolution shall be in
the following form:

THE GIST OF THE PROPOSI TION IS AS FOLLOWS:
This measure amends Section 1 of Article 13 of the Oklahoma
Constitution. This sect ion directs the Legislature to establish
and maintain a system of free public schools. The amendment
would modify the duty of the L egislature to establ ish and make
suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an
efficient and equitable system of free public schools.

SECTION 3. The President Pro Tempore of the Senate shall,
immediately after the passage of this resolution, prepare and file
one copy thereof, including the Ballot Title set forth in SECTION 2
hereof, with the Secretary of State and one copy with the Atto rney
General.
