6363 An Act relating to meat processing; amending 2 O.S.

7171 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
7272 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 2 O.S. 2021, S ection 6-188, is
7373 amended to read as follows:
7474 Section 6-188. A. The Board shall cause to be made, by
7575 competent inspectors, such inspection of all slaugh tering, meat-
7676 canning, salting, packing, rendering, or similar establishments in
7777 which cattle, bison, sh eep, swine, goats, horses, mules, and other
7878 equines are slaughtered and the meat and meat food products thereof
7979 are prepared for intrastate commerce as m ay be necessary to inform
8080 itself concerning the sanitary conditions of the same and to
8181 prescribe the rules and regulations of sanitation under which such
8282 establishments shall be maintained; and where the sanitary
8383 conditions of any such establishment are su ch that the meat or meat
8484 food products are rendered adulterated, it shall refuse to allow
8585 said meat or meat food products to be labeled, marked, stamped, or

137137 tagged as “Oklahoma Inspected and Passed ”, and the Board may remove
138138 inspectors from any establishme nt which fails to maintain said
139139 establishment in a sanitary manner.
140140 B. The provisions of this section shall not apply to th e
141141 slaughtering of animals by any person at a custom slaughtering
142142 facility, the preparation at such custom slaughtering facility , and
143143 transportation in commerce of the carcasses, parts thereof, or meat
144144 and meat food products of such ani mals if:
145145 1. The slaughtering and preparation carried out at such custom
146146 slaughter facility is carried out in accordance with the laws of
147147 this state; and
148148 2. The animals are so slaughtered and the car casses, parts
149149 thereof, and meat and meat food pro ducts of such animals are so
150150 prepared exclusively for dist ribution to:
151151 a. household consumers with in this state, and
152152 b. restaurants, hotels, boarding houses, grocery sto res,
153153 or other establishments locat ed in this state that:
154154 (1) are involved in the p reparation of meals served
155155 directly to consumers, or
156156 (2) offer meat and meat food products for sale
157157 directly to consumers in this state.
158158 SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2023.
