11	42		Oklahoma; and celebrating th e contributions of
12	43		African Americans to the history of Oklahoma and the

17	48		WHEREAS, National African American History Month, also referred
18	49		to as African American History Month and Black History Month, is
19		-	annually observed in the month of February; and

21	51		WHEREAS, the United States Congress passed Public Law 99 -244 in
22	52		1986 to officially designate February as National Black History
23	53		Month in the United States to pay tribute and celebrate the
24	54		significant achievements and contributions made by Bl ack Americans;

27	55		WHEREAS, Black History Month is celebrated in February to
28	56		commemorate the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln,
29		-	both significant leaders in the abolition of slavery; and

31		-	WHEREAS, numerous Oklahomans identify as African American; and

47	96		WHEREAS, it is important to recognize and celebrate the

52	100		opportunity for all citizens to celebrate the achievements of
53	101		African Americans, furthering that environment of togetherness.

55	102		NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
56	103		OF THE 1ST SESSION OF THE 6 0TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE :

58	104		THAT the month of February is formally recognized by the
59	105		Oklahoma House of Representatives as Black History Month.

61	106		THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives recognizes the
62	107		contributions of Black Americans to the history of Oklaho ma and the
