83rd OREGON LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY--2025 Regular Session Enrolled Senate Concurrent Resolution 5 Sponsored by Senator PROZANSKI, Representative LIVELY (Presession filed.) Whereas on June 1, 2024, the Thurston High School Colts baseball team from Springfield capped an outstanding regular season by winning the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) Class 5A state championship at PK Park in Eugene; and Whereas the Colts defeated West Albany High School 2-0 in the title game; and Whereas the Colts rode a brilliant starting pitching performance from Grady Saunders and stellar relief pitching from Eli Christ to seal the title game victory; and Whereas the 2024 title was a remarkable repeat state championship for Thurston, which also defeated West Albany to win the 2023 title; and Whereas five members of the 2023 Colts team graduated, presenting the 2024 team with a hefty challenge in their quest for back-to-back titles; and Whereas Colts coach Dennis Minium said of his 2024 team:“They play really well with a big target on their back and they’re going to make somebody beat us, for sure.”; and Whereas the 2024 Colts were nearly perfect all season long, losing only once to an in-state team and finishing the season with a superb overall record of 28-3; and Whereas Maddox Molony was honored as the 2023 Class 5A co-player of the year, Connor Molony was honored as the pitcher of the year and Dennis Minium was honored as coach of the year;and Whereas also earning 2023 Class 5A all-state honors were Eli Christ, Easton McDonald, Adam Elliott, Grady Saunders and Collin Hernandez; and Whereas Eli Christ was honored as the 2024 Class 5A player of the year and Grady Saunders was honored as the pitcher of the year; and Whereas also earning 2024 Class 5A all-state honors were Brock Johnson, Adam Elliott, Kyle Miller, Connor Molony and Collin Hernandez; and Whereas Colts baseball players and coaches exhibited outstanding character and sportsmanship on and off the playing field throughout the 2023 and 2024 seasons; and Whereas the back-to-back state championships were the second and third state titles for Thurston in program history, following their title in 2009; and Whereas the 2023 and 2024 Thurston baseball teams thrilled Colts fans and earned the respect of fans around the state with their skill, courage and fighting spirit, refusing to be eliminated until they were finally crowned champions; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon: That we, the members of the Eighty-third Legislative Assembly, commend the exemplary achievements of the 2023 and 2024 Thurston High School Colts in winning back-to-back state base- ball championships.
