2121 It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
2222 SECTION 1. Section 5-60-10 of the General Laws in Chapter 5-60 entitled "Athletic 1
2323 Trainers" is hereby amended to read as follows: 2
2424 5-60-10. Qualifications of athletic trainers. 3
2525 (a) An applicant for an athletic trainer license must possess one of the following 4
2626 qualifications: 5
2727 (1) Give proof of graduation from an accredited college or university and have met the 6
2828 following minimum athletic-training-curriculum requirements established by the board, by 7
2929 completing the following specific course requirements: 8
3030 (i) Human anatomy; 9
3131 (ii) Human physiology; 10
3232 (iii) Physiology of exercise; 11
3333 (iv) Applied anatomy and kinesiology; 12
3434 (v) Psychology (2 courses); 13
3535 (vi) First aid and CPR; 14
3636 (vii) Nutrition; 15
3737 (viii) Remedial exercise; 16
3838 (ix) Personal, community, and school health; 17
3939 (x) Techniques of athletic training; 18
4040 (xi) Advanced techniques of athletic training; and 19

4444 (xii) Clinical experience in accordance with national standards and as approved by the 1
4545 director. 2
4646 (2) Show proof acceptable to the board of education and experience of equal caliber to that 3
4747 specified in subsection (a)(1). 4
4848 (3) Have passed the required examination approved by the department. 5
4949 (b) On and after January 1, 2004, an applicant for initial licensure shall be required to 6
5050 demonstrate: 7
5151 (1) Proof of graduation from an accredited college or university and shall have met 8
5252 minimum athletic training requirements as established by department regulation; and 9
5353 (2) Proof of having passed the required examination, approved by the department, and shall 10
5454 have been certified by the national certifying body recognized by the National Athletic Trainers 11
5555 Association (NATA). 12
5656 (c) On and after January 1, 2024, as a condition for issuance or maintaining a license issued 13
5757 pursuant to § 5-60-9, an athletic trainer shall successfully complete training and be issued a 14
5858 certificate pursuant to the provisions of § 23-6.4-6. 15
5959 SECTION 2. Chapter 5-60 of the General Laws entitled "Athletic Trainers" is hereby 16
6060 amended by adding thereto the following section: 17
6161 5-60-10.1. Trained and equipped with epi-pen requirement. 18
6262 On and after January 1, 2024, every athletic trainer licensed pursuant to § 5-60-9 shall be 19
6363 trained and equipped with an epinephrine auto-injector while performing the duties of an athletic 20
6464 trainer. 21
6565 SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage. 22
