RELATING TO PUBLIC OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES -- MERIT SYSTEM

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: 
SECTION 1. Chapter 36-4 of the General Laws entitled "Merit System" is hereby amended 1 
by adding thereto the following section: 2 
36-4-18.1. Temporary exemption from competitive tests.     3 
(a) Notwithstanding any general or special law, rule or regulation to the contrary to include, 4 
but not be limited to, ยง 36-4-18, all job applicants applying for a classified service competitive 5 
position within the department of human services shall be exempt from completing any competitive 6 
test for employment. 7 
(b) The exemption from testing shall apply until July 1, 2024. 8 
(c) The provisions of this section shall sunset and expire on July 1, 2024 9 
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 10
