Lombardi, Felag, Raptakis, Miller, LaMountain, and Lauria Date Introduced: February 01, 2023 Referred To: Senate Judiciary It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: SECTION 1. Section 17-18-15 of the General Laws in Chapter 17-18 entitled "Elective 1 Meetings" is hereby amended to read as follows: 2 17-18-15. Closing of schools. 3 At each general election as defined in § 17-1-2(2) and, at each statewide primary as defined 4 in § 17-15-1, and at each primary for election of delegates to national conventions and for 5 presidential preference as defined in § 17-12.1, all public elementary and secondary schools 6 throughout the state shall not be in session. On the day of the general election, and the statewide 7 primary, and the presidential preference primary, the use of school buildings or premises shall be 8 restricted to use only as polling places for election purposes. Notwithstanding the previous 9 provisions, school staff development days may be held. Provided further, that the provisions of this 10 section shall not be applicable to the Block Island School, located in the town of New Shoreham, 11 and the use of the Block Island School shall not be restricted, nor shall classes need to be cancelled 12 or postponed at said school, on the day of general elections, and statewide primaries, and 13 presidential preference primaries. 14 SECTION 2.
