MAKING AN APPROPRIATION OF $5,000,000 TO ELEANOR SLATER HOSPITAL,
ZAMBARANO UNIT

WHEREAS, The Wallum Lake Fire Department, located in Burrillville, provides fire 1
protection, emergency response services, and responds to medical emergencies to the Burrillville 2
community including the Zambarano Unit of the Eleanor Slater Hospital; and 3
WHEREAS, Eleanor Slater Hospital/Zambarano Unit serves as an optimal model for all 4
long-term care facilities that provides outstanding health care services to those Rhode Islanders 5
who are in the greatest need, including geriatric patients, patients with developmental disabilities, 6
patients with Alzheimer's disease, and those with spinal cord injuries; and 7
WHEREAS, The Wallum Lake Fire Station is in critical need of re-building to replace 8
the deteriorating existing structure in order to continue to provide these critically needed services 9
to the community and the Zambarano Unit of the Eleanor Slater Hospital; now, therefore be it 10
RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated, out of any money in the treasury not 11
otherwise appropriated for the fiscal year 2023-2024, the sum of five million dollars ($5,000,000) 12
to the Eleanor Slater Hospital, Zambarano Unit for the purpose of re-building a fire station on 13
Wallum Lake; and the state controller is hereby authorized and directed to draw his orders upon 14
the general treasurer for the payment of said sum, or so much thereof as may be from time to time 15
required, upon receipt of properly authenticated vouchers. 16
