RELATING TO CRIMINAL OFFENSES -- THREATS AND EXTORTION

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: 
SECTION 1. Chapter 11-42 of the General Laws entitled "Threats and Extortion" is hereby 1 
amended by adding thereto the following section: 2 
11-42-4.1. Menacing.     3 
Whoever knowingly and willfully delivers or conveys, directly or indirectly, a verbal, 4 
written or physical threat to take the life of, or to inflict bodily harm upon, another person, shall be 5 
guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be imprisoned for not more than one year or fined not more than 6 
one thousand dollars ($1,000), or both.  7 
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 8

This act would establish the criminal offense of menacing as a misdemeanor and 1 
punishable by a year in person or fined not more than one thousand dollars ($1,000).  2 
This act would take effect upon passage. 3
