| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 40-8 of the General Laws entitled "Medical Assistance" is hereby 1 |

| 24 | 24 | | amended by adding thereto the following section: 2 |

| 25 | 25 | | 40-8-33. Graduate student services covered. 3 |

| 26 | 26 | | Notwithstanding any general law, public law, special law, rule or regulation to the contrary, 4 |

| 27 | 27 | | Medicaid reimbursement shall be provided under this chapter for services provided by a graduate 5 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | student intern in one of the mental health professional disciplines who is formally assigned by an 6 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | accredited college/university to an agency or facility for clinical training. The graduate student 7 |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | intern shall be allowed to receive compensation from these reimbursed hours and the supervising 8 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | organization is allowed to retain a portion of the compensation to cover expenses related to 9 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | supervisory work. A mental health practitioner working as a clinical trainee must: 10 |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | (1) Comply with requirements for licensure or board certification as a mental health 11 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | professional including supervised practice in the delivery of mental health services for the treatment 12 |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | of mental illness; or 13 |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | (2) Be a graduate student in a bona fide field placement or internship under a program 14 |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | leading to completion of the requirements for licensure as a mental health professional. 15 |
