2222 It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
2323 SECTION 1. Chapter 40-8 of the General Laws entitled "Medical Assistance" is hereby 1
2424 amended by adding thereto the following section: 2
2525 40-8-33. Graduate student services covered. 3
2626 Notwithstanding any general law, public law, special law, rule or regulation to the contrary, 4
2727 Medicaid reimbursement shall be provided under this chapter for services provided by a graduate 5
2828 student intern in one of the mental health professional disciplines who is formally assigned by an 6
2929 accredited college/university to an agency or facility for clinical training. The graduate student 7
3030 intern shall be allowed to receive compensation from these reimbursed hours and the supervising 8
3131 organization is allowed to retain a portion of the compensation to cover expenses related to 9
3232 supervisory work. A mental health practitioner working as a clinical trainee must: 10
3333 (1) Comply with requirements for licensure or board certification as a mental health 11
3434 professional including supervised practice in the delivery of mental health services for the treatment 12
3535 of mental illness; or 13
3636 (2) Be a graduate student in a bona fide field placement or internship under a program 14
3737 leading to completion of the requirements for licensure as a mental health professional. 15
