RELATING TO TOWNS AN D CITIES -- HISTORICAL AREA ZONING

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 45-24.1 of the General Laws entitled "Historical Area Zoning" is 1
hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 2
45-24.1-24. Preservation of historic structures in South Kingstown. 3
In addition to all other powers granted by the provisions of this chapter, the town of South 4
Kingstown is authorized, by ordinance, to establish, upon recommendation of its historic district 5
commission, a list of specified buildings or structures that are deemed to be of historic or 6
architectural value. The town of South Kingstown is further authorized, by ordinance, to add to or 7
delete from the list, and to require that demolition of listed properties be delayed to provide time to 8
evaluate prescribed alternatives to demolition. 9
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 10
