MAKING AN APPROPRIATION OF $500,000 TO NORA'S HAVEN

WHEREAS, Nora’s Haven provides vital services to survivors of abuse and violence in 1
Rhode Island by providing essential resources to assist in navigating support systems; and 2
WHEREAS, Survivors often struggle with economic barriers, including limited job 3
opportunities, and inadequate financial assistance; and 4
WHEREAS, In addition, Nora’s Haven prioritizes outreach to those facing systematic 5
challenges including people of color, individuals with disabilities, limited English proficiency, 6
older adults, the LGBTQ+ communities, residents of low-income neighborhoods, and unhoused 7
individuals; and 8
WHEREAS, In order to meet the needs of those fleeing abusive situations as well as 9
myriad additional challenges, $500,000 is essential and would cover the following: 10
• Emergency Assistance including housing, transportation, and legal services; 11
• Basic needs including food, medicine, clothing, etc.; 12
• Other client support including training, therapy, and class supplies; and 13
• Administrative salaries, office rental, etc.; now, therefore be it 14
RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated, out of money in the treasury not 15
otherwise appropriated for the fiscal year 2025-2026, the sum of five hundred thousand dollars 16
($500,000) to fund the vital services provided by Nora’s Haven; and the state controller is hereby 17
authorized and directed to draw their orders upon the general treasurer for the payment of said 18

sum, or so much thereof as may be from time to time required, upon receipt of properly 1
authenticated vouchers. 2
