A RESOLUTION to confirm the appointment of Rick Spell to the
advisory board for the University of Tennessee
Health Science Center.
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-9-501, established an advisory
board for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center; and
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-9-501, provides that the governor
shall appoint five members to such advisory board; and
WHEREAS, Governor Bill Lee has appointed Rick Spell to the advisory board for the
University of Tennessee Health Science Center for a term that expires on June 30, 2028; and
WHEREAS, Rick Spell is president of the Memphis Athletic Foundation at the University
of Memphis as well as a member of the Capital Campaign Committee tasked with raising $600
million; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Spell graduated from the University of Memphis with a bachelor's
degree in accounting; he attained his Certified Public Accountant certificate and devoted many
years of his career to investment banking; and
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-9-501, provides that each member
appointed by the governor to the advisory board for the University of Tennessee Health Science
Center shall be confirmed by the general assembly; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we hereby confirm the appointment of Rick Spell to the advisory board for
the University of Tennessee Health Science Center for a term that expires on June 30, 2028.
