<BillNo> <Sponsor> HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 229 By Terry HJR0229 003489 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to honor Reed Blankenship, Super Bowl LIX champion. WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly are pleased to recognize a Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) alumnus who reached the acme of professional football by winning Super Bowl LIX as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles; and WHEREAS, a five-year starter at MTSU, Reed Blankenship set the school record for career tackles and was twice named First Team All-Conference USA; and WHEREAS, despite going undrafted in 2022, Reed Blankenship carved out a starting role at safety with the Eagles and soon became a critical part of a defense that helped lead Philadelphia all the way to Super Bowl LVII; and WHEREAS, in 2024, Reed Blankenship had 78 total tackles, 48 solo tackles, and 4 interceptions as an integral component of the Eagles' defense, which was the best overall defense in the league; and WHEREAS, the 2024 Eagles posted an excellent 14-3 regular season record and then won two playoff games to reach Super Bowl LIX, where Reed Blankenship proved his true worth; and WHEREAS, Reed Blankenship had 3 total tackles, and the Philadelphia defense was dominant, forcing three turnovers and recording six sacks to blow out the reigning champions 40-22 and claim a Super Bowl victory that was extremely one-sided; and WHEREAS, Reed Blankenship had 27 total tackles and 18 solo tackles in post-season play; and WHEREAS, Reed Blankenship has reached the very pinnacle of his profession, and he is most worthy of our approbation; now, therefore, - 2 - 003489 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that we honor and congratulate MTSU standout Reed Blankenship upon winning Super Bowl LIX as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles and extend to him our best wishes for much continued success on the gridiron and in life. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
