1414 A RESOLUTION to confirm the appointment of John Hie as a
1515 commissioner of the Tennessee public utility

1818 WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 65-1-101, creates the Tennessee
1919 public utility commission; and
2020 WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 65-1-101(a)(4), provides that one (1)
2121 commissioner of the Tennessee regulatory authority shall be appointed by joint agreement
2222 among the governor, the speaker of the senate, and the speaker of the house of
2323 representatives; and
2424 WHEREAS, Governor Bill Lee, Lieutenant Governor Randy McNally, and Speaker
2525 Cameron Sexton have jointly appointed John Hie of Nashville to serve as a commissioner of the
2626 Tennessee public utility commission for a term that will expire on June 30, 2030; and
2727 WHEREAS, Mr. Hie retired from Stephens, Inc., an investment firm in Little Rock,
2828 Arkansas, in 2015; he had previously served with the JC Bradford Investment firm from 1984 to
2929 2000, working as a financial advisor and broker for a wide variety of private clients; and
3030 WHEREAS, a 1969 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of
3131 Pharmacy, John Hie served from 1969 until 1972 as a pharmacist in the United States Army at
3232 Walter Reed Army Medical Center; and
3333 WHEREAS, Mr. Hie was a managing pharmacist for Revco Drugs from 1972 to 1974,
3434 before embarking on a new business venture as the owner and operator of an independent
3535 pharmacy; and

4040 WHEREAS, Mr. Hie's extensive experience in business will be valuable to the
4141 Tennessee public utility commission; and
4242 WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 65-1-101, provides that each
4343 appointment to the Tennessee public utility commission shall be confirmed by joint resolution
4444 adopted by each house of the general assembly; now, therefore,
4545 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
4646 FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
4747 CONCURRING, that we hereby confirm the appointment of John Hie of Nashville to serve a six-
4848 year term as a commissioner of the Tennessee public utility commission, such term to expire on
4949 June 30, 2030.
