<BillNo> <Sponsor> HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 242 By Sexton HJR0242 003771 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to confirm the appointment of John Hie as a commissioner of the Tennessee public utility commission. WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 65-1-101, creates the Tennessee public utility commission; and WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 65-1-101(a)(4), provides that one (1) commissioner of the Tennessee regulatory authority shall be appointed by joint agreement among the governor, the speaker of the senate, and the speaker of the house of representatives; and WHEREAS, Governor Bill Lee, Lieutenant Governor Randy McNally, and Speaker Cameron Sexton have jointly appointed John Hie of Nashville to serve as a commissioner of the Tennessee public utility commission for a term that will expire on June 30, 2030; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hie retired from Stephens, Inc., an investment firm in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 2015; he had previously served with the JC Bradford Investment firm from 1984 to 2000, working as a financial advisor and broker for a wide variety of private clients; and WHEREAS, a 1969 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Pharmacy, John Hie served from 1969 until 1972 as a pharmacist in the United States Army at Walter Reed Army Medical Center; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hie was a managing pharmacist for Revco Drugs from 1972 to 1974, before embarking on a new business venture as the owner and operator of an independent pharmacy; and - 2 - 003771 WHEREAS, Mr. Hie's extensive experience in business will be valuable to the Tennessee public utility commission; and WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 65-1-101, provides that each appointment to the Tennessee public utility commission shall be confirmed by joint resolution adopted by each house of the general assembly; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that we hereby confirm the appointment of John Hie of Nashville to serve a six- year term as a commissioner of the Tennessee public utility commission, such term to expire on June 30, 2030.
