| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, over 100 years have passed since the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the formation of the first communist government under Vladimir Lenin, leading to decades of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | oppression and violence under communist regimes throughout the world; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, based on the economic philosophies of Karl Marx, communism has proven |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | incompatible with the ideals of liberty, prosperity, and dignity of human life and has given rise to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | such infamous totalitarian dictators as Joseph Stalin, Vladimir Lenin, Mao Zedong, and Pol Pot; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, communist regimes worldwide have killed more than 100 million people and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | subjected countless others to exploitation and unspeakable atrocities, with victims representing |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | many different ethnicities, creeds, and backgrounds; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, through false promises of equality and liberation or through coercion, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | brutality, and fear, communist regimes have systematically robbed their own citizens of the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | rights of freedom of worship, freedom of speech, and freedom of association; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, many victims of communism were persecuted as political prisoners for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | speaking out against these regimes, and others were killed in genocidal state-sponsored purges |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of undesirable groups; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, in addition to violating basic human rights, communist regimes have |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | suppressed intellectual freedom, cultural life, and self-determination movements in more than |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | forty nations; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED |
