1212 A RESOLUTION to recognize Melinda Poteet Goode on the
1313 occasion of her retirement.

1515 WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the members of this General Assembly should honor
1616 those citizens who have performed with uncommon devotion and enthusiasm throughout their
1717 careers in public service; and
1818 WHEREAS, Melinda Poteet Goode is one such estimable person, who has distinguished
1919 herself as a professional of the greatest dedication, ability, and integrity; and
2020 WHEREAS, after nearly forty-one years of exemplary service with the Northwest
2121 Tennessee Development District and Human Resource Agency, Mrs. Goode will be taking a
2222 well-deserved retirement on June 30, 2025; and
2323 WHEREAS, Melinda Goode has served in numerous capacities during her distinguished
2424 tenure, most recently as the executive director of both agencies, a role to which she was
2525 unanimously appointed by the board of directors in November 2020; and
2626 WHEREAS, throughout her career, Mrs. Goode has dedicated herself to enhancing the
2727 quality of life for the more than 250,000 citizens of Northwest Tennessee, working tirelessly to
2828 provide resources, coordinate programs, and advocate for the needs of rural communities; and
2929 WHEREAS, a native of Trenton, Melinda Goode is a proud graduate of Peabody High
3030 School, and she furthered her education at the University of Tennessee at Martin and Bethel
3131 University, where she earned a degree in organizational management in 2008; and
3232 WHEREAS, she is a respected alumna of several esteemed leadership programs,
3333 including Weakley County Leadership, WestStar Leadership, and the Delta Regional Authority
3434 Leadership Program, and she also attended the Harvard Kennedy School of Government for
3535 Leadership and Leadership Tennessee; and
3636 WHEREAS, an esteemed member of her profession, Mrs. Goode has served as a
3737 member of the board of directors of the Tennessee Development District Association and the

4242 Tennessee Association of Human Resource Agencies, and she received a congressional
4343 appointment to serve as a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging in both 1995 and
4444 2005; and
4545 WHEREAS, she currently serves on the Workforce Investment Board for eleven counties
4646 in West Tennessee and contributes her insight and experience as a member of the Council of
4747 Peers for the Southeast Regional Directors Institute; and
4848 WHEREAS, Melinda Goode has also demonstrated her commitment to public service by
4949 serving several years on the Weakley County Board of Education and participating in mission
5050 trips to Honduras; and
5151 WHEREAS, her many professional accomplishments aside, Mrs. Goode is grateful for
5252 the love and companionship of her family—her husband, Bobby; two sons, Garner (Rachel) and
5353 Crockett (Amy); and her beloved grandchildren, Harper, Mack, and Cohen; and
5454 WHEREAS, throughout her estimable career, Mrs. Goode has demonstrated the utmost
5555 professionalism, ability, and integrity, winning the unbridled respect and admiration of her
5656 colleagues and the citizens she so ably served; now, therefore,
5757 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
5858 FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
5959 CONCURRING, that we extend to Melinda Poteet Goode our heartfelt wishes for a happy and
6060 fulfilling retirement, offering our deepest gratitude for her many years of distinguished service
6161 with the Northwest Tennessee Development District and Human Resource Agency and wishing
6262 her every continued success in her future endeavors.
6363 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
6464 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
6565 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
6666 without House or Senate designation.
