<BillNo> <Sponsor> HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 550 By Darby HJR0550 006942 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to recognize Melinda Poteet Goode on the occasion of her retirement. WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the members of this General Assembly should honor those citizens who have performed with uncommon devotion and enthusiasm throughout their careers in public service; and WHEREAS, Melinda Poteet Goode is one such estimable person, who has distinguished herself as a professional of the greatest dedication, ability, and integrity; and WHEREAS, after nearly forty-one years of exemplary service with the Northwest Tennessee Development District and Human Resource Agency, Mrs. Goode will be taking a well-deserved retirement on June 30, 2025; and WHEREAS, Melinda Goode has served in numerous capacities during her distinguished tenure, most recently as the executive director of both agencies, a role to which she was unanimously appointed by the board of directors in November 2020; and WHEREAS, throughout her career, Mrs. Goode has dedicated herself to enhancing the quality of life for the more than 250,000 citizens of Northwest Tennessee, working tirelessly to provide resources, coordinate programs, and advocate for the needs of rural communities; and WHEREAS, a native of Trenton, Melinda Goode is a proud graduate of Peabody High School, and she furthered her education at the University of Tennessee at Martin and Bethel University, where she earned a degree in organizational management in 2008; and WHEREAS, she is a respected alumna of several esteemed leadership programs, including Weakley County Leadership, WestStar Leadership, and the Delta Regional Authority Leadership Program, and she also attended the Harvard Kennedy School of Government for Leadership and Leadership Tennessee; and WHEREAS, an esteemed member of her profession, Mrs. Goode has served as a member of the board of directors of the Tennessee Development District Association and the - 2 - 006942 Tennessee Association of Human Resource Agencies, and she received a congressional appointment to serve as a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging in both 1995 and 2005; and WHEREAS, she currently serves on the Workforce Investment Board for eleven counties in West Tennessee and contributes her insight and experience as a member of the Council of Peers for the Southeast Regional Directors Institute; and WHEREAS, Melinda Goode has also demonstrated her commitment to public service by serving several years on the Weakley County Board of Education and participating in mission trips to Honduras; and WHEREAS, her many professional accomplishments aside, Mrs. Goode is grateful for the love and companionship of her family—her husband, Bobby; two sons, Garner (Rachel) and Crockett (Amy); and her beloved grandchildren, Harper, Mack, and Cohen; and WHEREAS, throughout her estimable career, Mrs. Goode has demonstrated the utmost professionalism, ability, and integrity, winning the unbridled respect and admiration of her colleagues and the citizens she so ably served; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that we extend to Melinda Poteet Goode our heartfelt wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement, offering our deepest gratitude for her many years of distinguished service with the Northwest Tennessee Development District and Human Resource Agency and wishing her every continued success in her future endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
