<BillNo> <Sponsor> HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 642 By Maberry HJR0642 007258 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to commend Doug Englen for his honorable and astute service as Chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party. WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to specially recognize those estimable public servants who have dedicated themselves to improving the quality of life for their fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, one such remarkable individual is Doug Englen, whose legacy of service spans over three decades in the United States Army and through continued civic leadership as Chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party; and WHEREAS, after a storied military career, Mr. Englen entered the political arena as a candidate for the Tennessee State Senate in District 22 in early 2020; though unsuccessful in that race, he emerged as a dedicated public servant, consistently supporting his former opponent and remaining actively engaged in Tennessee politics; and WHEREAS, as Montgomery County Republican Party Chairman and the District 22 State Executive Committeeman, Doug Englen has exemplified servant leadership, guiding and supporting conservative principles and candidates at the grassroots level; and WHEREAS, from 2020 to 2024, he served as chapter president of the Tennessee Firearms Association, sat on the board of the chamber of commerce, and chaired numerous veterans' organizations, always striving to better his community through meaningful engagement and advocacy; and WHEREAS, Mr. Englen joined Bell in 2020 as the Fort Campbell representative for Future Vertical Lift programs; drawing on his extensive aviation background, he advises on the design, development, build, and test of the V-280 Valor aircraft for the United States Army's Future Long Range Assault Aircraft program, contributing to the Army's modernization strategy; and - 2 - 007258 WHEREAS, prior to joining Bell, Doug Englen honorably served his nation as an active- duty member of the United States Army for thirty-three years; in his final assignment, he served as Senior Warrant Officer Advisor to the Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Army at the Pentagon, after having served twenty-two years in Special Operations Command, assuming roles ranging from technology acquisition to chief aviator and flight lead; and WHEREAS, Mr. Englen accumulated nearly 8,000 flight hours during his service, carrying out more than 2,500 combat missions across the globe; his earlier assignments included CH-47D operations in Germany and Korea, after beginning his Army career as a UH- 1H mechanic; and WHEREAS, Doug Englen holds a bachelor's degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University; he received advanced military education through the Army War College, FAA certifications, and completion of elite programs, including the Air Force Weapons School and Marine Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course; and WHEREAS, for his service to our country, Mr. Englen was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, two Silver Star medals, Legion of Merit, three Distinguished Flying Cross medals, two Bronze Star Medals, two Meritorious Service Medals, nine Air Medal with Valor Device (Numeral 8), four Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal (one Bronze Service Star), Southwest Asia Service Medal (three Bronze Service Stars), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 2) , Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 5), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), NATO Medal (one Bronze Star), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Government of Kuwait), Combat Action Badge, Master Army Aviator Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Parachutist Badge; and WHEREAS, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Doug Englen enjoys the love and support of his wife, Tina, and their children, Chris (Rachelle), Alexandria (John), Catheryn, and Elizabeth, and four cherished grandchildren; and - 3 - 007258 WHEREAS, Mr. Englen is wholly committed to the noble precepts of public service and political engagement that have earned Tennessee recognition as the Volunteer State, and he should be specially recognized; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that we hereby commend Doug Englen for his honorable and astute service as Chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party and salute his unswerving commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction.
