1212 A RESOLUTION to recognize the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary
1313 Education Center at Radnor Lake on its tenth
1414 anniversary.

1616 WHEREAS, opened in 2015, the 550-foot boardwalk and aviary complex at Radnor Lake
1717 State Park, known as the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center, is the epicenter of the
1818 Tennessee State Parks birds-of-prey programming, offering park visitors a unique opportunity
1919 for unparalleled education programs; and
2020 WHEREAS, constructed as a boardwalk, nestled in the natural area, the wheelchair-
2121 accessible facility allows "up close" observation of non-releasable birds of prey and a bird's-eye
2222 view of the surrounding hillside and wildlife; and
2323 WHEREAS, through a public-private partnership with the State of Tennessee, these
2424 non-releasable birds of prey, designated as education animals due to permanent injuries, are
2525 housed and cared for at Radnor Lake State Park; and
2626 WHEREAS, Radnor park staff participate in training four times each year, conducted by
2727 Wings to Soar, to improve the park staff's knowledge, handling skills, and care of these birds of
2828 prey and provide the highest level of care for the park's captive wildlife and high-quality
2929 interpretive birds-of-prey programs for the public; and
3030 WHEREAS, there are seven non-releasable birds in residence at the Barbara J. Mapp
3131 Aviary Education Center: a great horned owl, a red-tailed hawk, a vulture, a golden eagle, and
3232 three bald eagles; all of these birds of prey live in their own habitat, customized to provide for
3333 their individual needs and to offer protection; and

3838 WHEREAS, for ten years, the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center at Radnor Lake
3939 has been delighting and edifying visitors of all ages while offering a safe, comfortable
4040 environment for the amazing birds of prey who call Radnor home; now, therefore,
4141 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
4242 FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
4343 CONCURRING, that we recognize the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center at Radnor
4444 Lake on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, extending our best wishes for its continued
4545 success.
4646 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
4747 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
4848 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
4949 without House or Senate designation.
