<BillNo> <Sponsor> HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 672 By Powell HJR0672 007736 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to recognize the inaugural Broadway Block Party in Nashville. WHEREAS, the Volunteer State has a rich tradition in women's athletics, with Tennessee colleges and universities having won national championships in several women's sports; and WHEREAS, the popularity of volleyball is growing rapidly among both athletes and fans in Tennessee and across the nation; and WHEREAS, on August 31, 2025, the Nashville Sports Council and ESPN will sponsor the inaugural Broadway Block Party women's college volleyball tournament at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, a city that has become prominent as a host of major sporting events; and WHEREAS, the first women's collegiate volleyball tournament to be held in Bridgestone Arena, the 2025 Broadway Block Party will feature some of the nation's elite volleyball athletes playing in three SEC versus Big 10 contests, with all matches being nationally televised; and WHEREAS, the first match pits five-time national champion Nebraska against defending SEC champion Kentucky; and WHEREAS, the second match will feature Purdue versus the Tennessee Lady Vols; both teams have made four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and both have recently advanced to the regional semifinals; and WHEREAS, in the final match of the tripleheader, Illinois, a veteran of twenty-eight NCAA tournaments, will play the hometown favorite Vanderbilt Commodores, who will be opening their historic inaugural season in Division I; and - 2 - 007736 WHEREAS, we most assuredly look forward to the inaugural Broadway Block Party, which will kick off the 2025 season with three great matches in the vibrant capital city of Tennessee; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that we honor and recognize the inaugural Broadway Block Party at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on August 31, 2025, and express our sincere hope that the event will be held annually. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
