BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE: SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 57-4-102, is amended by adding the following as a new subdivision: ( ) "Downtown district" means the central area or main business and commercial area of a home rule municipality in a county having a population of not less than one hundred thirty-three thousand (133,000) and not more than one hundred thirty-three thousand one hundred (133,100), according to the 2020 or a subsequent federal census, as designated by the legislative body of the municipality; SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 57-4-203(d), is amended by adding the following as a new subdivision: (8) Notwithstanding another law, a municipality having a downtown district, as defined in§ 57-4-102( ), may set the hours that licensees within the downtown district are authorized to sell or give away alcoholic beverages. SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
