A RESOLUTION to confirm the appointment of Lucas Hilliard to 
the standards recommendation committee for 
English language arts.  
 
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-1-312, creates a standards 
recommendation committee for English language arts; and 
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-1-312(a), provides that the 
governor shall appoint four members to the standards recommendation committee for English 
language arts; and 
WHEREAS, Governor Bill Lee has appointed Lucas Hilliard to serve on such committee 
for a term that expires on December 31, 2025; and  
WHEREAS, an educator since 2019, Mr. Hilliard teaches at White House High School in 
Sumner County, where he has taught English II, English III, AP English Literature and 
Composition, AP English Language and Composition, AP Seminar, and AP Research; and   
WHEREAS, he is a 2016 graduate of Vanderbilt University and holds a master's degree 
in education from Union University; and  
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-1-312(b), provides that all 
appointments to the committee "shall be subject to confirmation by the senate and the house of 
representatives"; now, therefore, 
 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH 
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF 
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we confirm the appointment of Lucas Hilliard to the 
standards recommendation committee for English language arts for a term that expires on 
December 31, 2025.
