<BillNo> <Sponsor> SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 138 By Southerland SJR0138 003324 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to recognize and commend FFA national champion Nate Mason. WHEREAS, we take great pleasure in recognizing those outstanding young scholars who have distinguished themselves as emerging leaders in Tennessee's agriculture industry; and WHEREAS, one such individual is Nate Mason, who recently claimed victory as the national champion in the National Agriscience Fair Animal Systems Division 3 at the ninety- seventh National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana, a most befitting honor that recognizes him as one of the most talented young people in this State and nation; and WHEREAS, Future Farmers of America, now known as FFA, was organized in 1928 to promote leadership, personal growth, and career success among high school agriculture students; and WHEREAS, Mr. Mason and nine of his fellow classmates from Cocke County High School attended this year's FFA convention and expo, attending workshops, speaking with colleges and universities about career opportunities, and earning a National 3 Star Chapter Award for their good work; and WHEREAS, the son of Julie and Anthony Mason, Nate Mason is the first-ever national champion for the Cocke County FFA; for his competition project, he conducted tests to show how environmental factors, such as light, temperature, and humidity, affect the growth rates of chickens; and WHEREAS, his first study was conducted over a forty-two-day period, and he wrote a research manuscript detailing the results; he bested all others in state-level competition to make it to the national round; and - 2 - 003324 WHEREAS, for many years, FFA has played an important role in ensuring the growth and prosperity of agriculture in Tennessee and the nation by expertly molding our future leaders; and WHEREAS, the success of this State, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of our society depend, in great measure, on the dedication of our students and our agricultural innovators, who will ensure Tennessee continues to lead the nation in agricultural production for generations to come; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and recognize FFA national champion Nate Mason, wishing him much success in his future endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
