<BillNo> <Sponsor> SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 229 By Johnson SJR0229 005333 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to commend and congratulate the Grassland Middle School Game Day Cheer Team, 2025 UCA Large Junior High Game Day National Champions. WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly are pleased to specially honor and commend those successful high school athletic teams that, through their magnificent exploits, bring honor to Tennessee and serve as exceptional ambassadors of this State; and WHEREAS, the Grassland Middle School Game Day Cheer Team is one such group of young athletes, which recently claimed the top spot at the 2025 Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Junior High Game Day National Championship in Orlando, Florida, on February 9, 2025; and WHEREAS, this year's national event hosted more than 27,000 athletes from 1,286 teams across thirty-four states; teams competing at the championship qualified at one of fifty regional competitions across the country in 2024; and WHEREAS, the Grassland cheerleaders earned the national title in their division, Large Junior High Game Day, after a successful season in which they placed first in Large Junior High Game Day and were named Grand Champion in the school division at Bullet Bash in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, and placed first in Large Junior High Game Day and were named Grand Champion in the school Game Day division at the Mountain Classic in Pikeville, Kentucky; and WHEREAS, the team also garnered its third consecutive UCA Bluegrass Regional Championship in Large Junior High Game Day in Lexington, Kentucky, which was a multi-state event that qualified the team for the national final, as well as a second consecutive TSSAA state championship in Large Junior High Game Day in Knoxville, Tennessee; and - 2 - 005333 WHEREAS, although the season was beset with illness, unpredictable weather, and various other challenges, the Grassland Middle School cheer team's commitment and resilience paid off in the end; and WHEREAS, the members of this outstanding championship team are Blaire Wombacher, Blair Young, Claire McCloskey, Claire Wall, Delaney Carper, Delaney Kennedy, Emma Puffer, Frankie Gilbert, Harper Beaird, Juliana Hart, Karis Saint-Aime, Michaela Waterman, Molly Allsep, Naomi Whitehead, Olive Mockett, Savannah Ford, Scarlett Haralson, Sophie George, Sydney Elmore, Sydney Williford, Brooklyn Knight, Cate Robinson, Charlee Rose Wilkins, Christiana Dykstra, Coley Jane Stanley, Georgia Janson, Harper Joyce, Izzy Spain, Margot Blackwelder, Meredith Barker, Morgan Boller, Nola Winton, Reagan Smith, Shannon Siefkes, Valentina Blanco, Bryn Glauser, Gentry Anne Smith, and Sadie Mockett; and WHEREAS, the Grassland cheerleaders were fortunate to have the invaluable, devoted guidance of coaches Lisa Wheeler, Erin Schueler, Jennifer Keith, Jaime Puffer, and Malik Briggs, as well as skills specialists Kelly Gerleve and Taylor Lark; and WHEREAS, displaying great sportsmanship and outstanding character throughout the season, the members of the Grassland Middle School cheer team have conducted themselves in a manner appropriate to the integrity of the State of Tennessee; and WHEREAS, the perseverance, determination, work ethic, and talent of this group of young athletes not only made possible a stellar triumph but also surely bode well for their future success; and WHEREAS, we find it appropriate to acknowledge and applaud the Grassland Middle School cheerleading squad for its outstanding performance; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we commend and congratulate the coaches, skills - 3 - 005333 specialists, and members of the Grassland Middle School Game Day Cheer Team on their commitment to excellence and congratulate them on winning the 2025 Universal Cheerleaders Association Large Junior High Game Day National Championship.
