<BillNo> <Sponsor> SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 311 By Johnson SJR0311 006203 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to recognize and commend the Franklin High School Band. WHEREAS, it is the privilege of the members of this General Assembly to recognize those Tennessee ensembles that epitomize hard work and dedication and serve as exceptional ambassadors of this State; and WHEREAS, one such renowned group of young musicians is the Franklin High School Band, which was formed in 1937 and, since its inception, has consistently held positions of distinction and artistic aptitude throughout the Franklin community; and WHEREAS, through years of continued dedication, determination, and dogged perseverance, the Franklin High School Band reached its first contemporary pinnacles under the direction of Wayne Simpson, who served the group from 1968 to 2003; and WHEREAS, the Franklin High School Band continued to excel under the leadership and direction of David Aydelott, who served the group from 2007 to 2019; and WHEREAS, no stranger to awards and accolades, the Franklin High School Band is an eight-time recipient of the Tennessee Governor's Cup champion title and a 2014 recipient of the prestigious Sudler Shield award, presented by the John Philip Sousa Foundation to high school, youth, and international marching bands of world-class excellence; and WHEREAS, the Franklin High School Band's performance highlights include the 1996 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, as well as appearances in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Orange Bowl Parade, the St. Patrick's Day Parade in St. Louis, Missouri, the Hollywood Christmas Parade, and, more recently, the 2024 New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade; and - 2 - 006203 WHEREAS, additionally, the Franklin High School Band had notable appearances in the movies Nashville and The Secret Handshake and Madonna's music video "American Pie"; and WHEREAS, a proud participant in Bands of America (BOA) since 2008, the Franklin High School Band is a four-time national runner-up in the program and has been a consistent BOA Grand Nationals Championship semi-finalist; and WHEREAS, proving itself to be among the finest marching bands in the country with unmatched ability, precision, and technique on the field, the Franklin High School Band has twice claimed the BOA Regional Champion title; and WHEREAS, seven of Franklin High School's ensembles performed at the Music for All National Festival, including the Percussion and Wind ensembles in 2013, the Chamber Music Ensemble in 2015, the Percussion Ensemble and Saxophone Quartet in 2017, and the Flute and Trombone ensembles in 2019; and WHEREAS, Franklin High School's Wind Ensemble performed in both the 2013 and 2017 Tennessee Bandmasters Association's Hall of Fame Induction Concert at the Tennessee Music Education Association Conference; and WHEREAS, the Franklin High School Winter Guard was the 2015 Scholastic AA Class Champion, the 2021 and 2023 Scholastic A Class Champion in the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit, and the 2023 Winter Guard International Scholastic A Bronze Medalist; and WHEREAS, the Franklin High School Band is currently under the astute leadership of directors Dr. Michael Holland and Nicholas Blue, Color Guard directors Levi Brandenburg and Michael Horvath, and percussion director Aaron Farris; and WHEREAS, the success of the Franklin High School Band has been aided in no small part by the support of band members, the community, and the administrators, faculty, and staff of Franklin High School; and - 3 - 006203 WHEREAS, as a result of its continued dedication to the highest expertise of musical and marching performance, the Franklin High School Band serves as the gold standard in the State of Tennessee, and each one of these young people should be recognized for their commitment and hard work; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF TH E ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we recognize and commend the directors and members of the Franklin High School Band, applaud their dedication to excellence in music and technique, and extend to them our best wishes for every continued success in the future. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
