55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to preparation of public school students to enter the
88 workforce.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 28.002, Education Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsection (n-1) to read as follows:
1212 (n-1) The State Board of Education shall by rule ensure that
1313 the career and technology education curriculum under Subsection
1414 (a)(2)(F) offered at the high school level includes essential
1515 knowledge and skills specifically designed to prepare students to
1616 enter the workforce. The essential knowledge and skills must
1717 address the social and emotional aspects of entering the workforce,
1818 as well as practical aspects such as interviewing skills, workforce
1919 etiquette, and dress and grooming standards.
2020 SECTION 2. Section 28.002(n-1), Education Code, as added by
2121 this Act, applies beginning with the 2010-2011 school year.
2222 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2323 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2424 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2525 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2626 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
