| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 28.002, Education Code, is amended by | |
| 11 | 11 | adding Subsection (n-1) to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (n-1) The State Board of Education shall by rule ensure that | |
| 13 | 13 | the career and technology education curriculum under Subsection | |
| 14 | 14 | (a)(2)(F) offered at the high school level includes essential | |
| 15 | 15 | knowledge and skills specifically designed to prepare students to | |
| 16 | 16 | enter the workforce. The essential knowledge and skills must | |
| 17 | 17 | address the social and emotional aspects of entering the workforce, | |
| 18 | 18 | as well as practical aspects such as interviewing skills, workforce | |
| 19 | 19 | etiquette, and dress and grooming standards. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 2. Section 28.002(n-1), Education Code, as added by | |
| 21 | 21 | this Act, applies beginning with the 2010-2011 school year. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 23 | 23 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 24 | 24 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 25 | 25 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 26 | 26 | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
