| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 815.003, Government Code, is amended by | |
| 11 | 11 | adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (b-1) A person elected to the board of trustees who retires | |
| 13 | 13 | from the employee class of membership while serving on the board may | |
| 14 | 14 | continue to serve on the board for the remainder of the term for | |
| 15 | 15 | which the person was elected. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 17 | 17 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 18 | 18 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 19 | 19 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 20 | 20 | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
