 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to a requirement that school districts notify employees
 regarding entitlement to leave time in circumstances involving
 assault.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1. Section 22.003, Education Code, is amended by
 adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows:
 (c-1)  Not later than the last day of the first week of
 instruction for the fall semester of each school year, a school
 district shall notify each district employee in writing of the
 employee's rights under Subsection (b). The notification must
 appear in bold-faced type using at least a 14-point font size. The
 notification may be provided electronically or on paper. If a
 district provides the notification by including it in an electronic
 or paper version of an informational teacher handbook or other
 informational handbook, the notification must appear on the first
 page that immediately follows the table of contents.
 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2009-2010
 school year.
 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
