55 relating to the Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force.
66 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
77 SECTION 1. Section 98.003, Health and Safety Code, as added
88 by Chapter 671 (H.B. 1373), Acts of the 80th Legislature, Regular
99 Session, 2007, is amended to read as follows:
1010 Sec. 98.003. DUTIES. The task force shall:
1111 (1) develop a cost-effective plan for prevention,
1212 early screening, diagnosis, and management of [to educate health
1313 care professionals about the advantages and methods of early
1414 screening, diagnosis, and treatment of] chronic kidney disease for
1515 the state's population [and complications related to chronic kidney
1616 disease based on the Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative
1717 Clinical Practice Guidelines for Chronic Kidney Disease or other
1818 medically recognized clinical practice guidelines]; and
1919 (2) develop a plan for surveillance and data analysis
2020 to assess the impact of [to educate health care professionals and
2121 individuals with] chronic kidney disease [about the advantages of
2222 end-stage renal disease modality education and early renal
2323 replacement therapy, including in-center dialysis, home
2424 hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis as well as other access options,
2525 and transplantation, before the onset of end-stage renal disease
2626 when kidney function is declining; and
2727 [(3) make recommendations on the implementation of a
2828 cost-effective plan for early screening, diagnosis, and treatment
2929 of chronic kidney disease for the state's population].
3030 SECTION 2. Section 98.006, Health and Safety Code, as added
3131 by Chapter 671 (H.B. 1373), Acts of the 80th Legislature, Regular
3232 Session, 2007, is amended to read as follows:
3333 Sec. 98.006. REPORT. Not later than January 1, 2011
3434 [2009], the task force shall submit its findings and
3535 recommendations to:
3636 (1) the governor, lieutenant governor, and speaker of
3737 the house of representatives; and
3838 (2) the presiding officers of the Senate Committee on
3939 Health and Human Services and the Public Health Committee of the
4040 house of representatives, or the appropriate committees of the 81st
4141 Legislature.
4242 SECTION 3. Section 98.009, Health and Safety Code, as added
4343 by Chapter 671 (H.B. 1373), Acts of the 80th Legislature, Regular
4444 Session, 2007, is amended to read as follows:
4545 Sec. 98.009. EXPIRATION. The task force is abolished and
4646 this chapter expires on September 1, 2011 [2009].
4747 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect August 31, 2009.
