6 | 6 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

7 | 7 | | SECTION 1. Section 98.003, Health and Safety Code, as added |
---|
8 | 8 | | by Chapter 671 (H.B. 1373), Acts of the 80th Legislature, Regular |
---|
9 | 9 | | Session, 2007, is amended to read as follows: |
---|
10 | 10 | | Sec. 98.003. DUTIES. The task force shall: |
---|
11 | 11 | | (1) develop a cost-effective plan for prevention, |
---|
12 | 12 | | early screening, diagnosis, and management of [to educate health |
---|
13 | 13 | | care professionals about the advantages and methods of early |
---|
14 | 14 | | screening, diagnosis, and treatment of] chronic kidney disease for |
---|
15 | 15 | | the state's population [and complications related to chronic kidney |
---|
16 | 16 | | disease based on the Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative |
---|
17 | 17 | | Clinical Practice Guidelines for Chronic Kidney Disease or other |
---|
18 | 18 | | medically recognized clinical practice guidelines]; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | (2) develop a plan for surveillance and data analysis |
---|
20 | 20 | | to assess the impact of [to educate health care professionals and |
---|
21 | 21 | | individuals with] chronic kidney disease [about the advantages of |
---|
22 | 22 | | end-stage renal disease modality education and early renal |
---|
23 | 23 | | replacement therapy, including in-center dialysis, home |
---|
24 | 24 | | hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis as well as other access options, |
---|
25 | 25 | | and transplantation, before the onset of end-stage renal disease |
---|
26 | 26 | | when kidney function is declining; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | [(3) make recommendations on the implementation of a |
---|
28 | 28 | | cost-effective plan for early screening, diagnosis, and treatment |
---|
29 | 29 | | of chronic kidney disease for the state's population]. |
---|
30 | 30 | | SECTION 2. Section 98.006, Health and Safety Code, as added |
---|
31 | 31 | | by Chapter 671 (H.B. 1373), Acts of the 80th Legislature, Regular |
---|
32 | 32 | | Session, 2007, is amended to read as follows: |
---|
33 | 33 | | Sec. 98.006. REPORT. Not later than January 1, 2011 |
---|
34 | 34 | | [2009], the task force shall submit its findings and |
---|
35 | 35 | | recommendations to: |
---|
36 | 36 | | (1) the governor, lieutenant governor, and speaker of |
---|
37 | 37 | | the house of representatives; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | (2) the presiding officers of the Senate Committee on |
---|
39 | 39 | | Health and Human Services and the Public Health Committee of the |
---|
40 | 40 | | house of representatives, or the appropriate committees of the 81st |
---|
41 | 41 | | Legislature. |

42 | 42 | | SECTION 3. Section 98.009, Health and Safety Code, as added |
---|
43 | 43 | | by Chapter 671 (H.B. 1373), Acts of the 80th Legislature, Regular |
---|
44 | 44 | | Session, 2007, is amended to read as follows: |
---|
45 | 45 | | Sec. 98.009. EXPIRATION. The task force is abolished and |
---|
46 | 46 | | this chapter expires on September 1, 2011 [2009]. |
---|
47 | 47 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect August 31, 2009. |
---|
