A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to paid leave time for a peace officer to attend certain
education and training programs.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 1701.253, Occupations Code, is amended
by adding Subsection (k) to read as follows:
(k) A state or local governmental entity that appoints or
employs peace officers shall give a peace officer paid leave time to
attend the education and training program on de-escalation and
crisis intervention techniques under Subsection (j).
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
to a peace officer who takes an education and training program that
occurs on or after the effective date of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
