A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to registration requirements for certain motor vehicles.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 502.002, Transportation Code, is amended
by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (a-1) to read as
follows:
(a) The owner of a motor vehicle[, trailer, or semitrailer]
shall apply for the registration of the vehicle for:
(1) each registration year in which the vehicle is
capable of being operated [used or to be used] on a public highway;
and
(2) if the vehicle is unregistered for a registration
year that has begun and that applies to the vehicle and if the
vehicle is capable of being operated [used or to be used] on a
public highway, the remaining portion of that registration year.
(a-1) The owner of a trailer or semitrailer shall apply for
the registration of the vehicle for:
(1) each registration year in which the vehicle is
used or to be used on a public highway; and
(2) if the vehicle is unregistered for a registration
year that has begun and that applies to the vehicle and if the
vehicle is used or to be used on a public highway, the remaining
portion of that registration year.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
