9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 28.0025 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 28.0025. TEXAS HISTORY MONTH INSTRUCTION. As part of | |
13 | 13 | the essential knowledge and skills of the social studies curriculum | |
14 | 14 | under Section 28.002(a)(1)(D), the State Board of Education by rule | |
15 | 15 | shall establish elements relating to instruction during Texas | |
16 | 16 | History Month, as provided by Section 662.102, Government Code. | |
17 | 17 | The instructional elements must include: | |
18 | 18 | (1) the principles of the Texas Constitution; | |
19 | 19 | (2) the traditions of state government; | |
20 | 20 | (3) the differences between the Texas Constitution and | |
21 | 21 | the United States Constitution; and | |
22 | 22 | (4) the historical and cultural effects of the | |
23 | 23 | principles of the Texas Constitution and the traditions of state | |
24 | 24 | government. | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
