55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to Texas History Month curriculum requirements for
88 students in public schools.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 28.0025 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 28.0025. TEXAS HISTORY MONTH INSTRUCTION. As part of
1313 the essential knowledge and skills of the social studies curriculum
1414 under Section 28.002(a)(1)(D), the State Board of Education by rule
1515 shall establish elements relating to instruction during Texas
1616 History Month, as provided by Section 662.102, Government Code.
1717 The instructional elements must include:
1818 (1) the principles of the Texas Constitution;
1919 (2) the traditions of state government;
2020 (3) the differences between the Texas Constitution and
2121 the United States Constitution; and
2222 (4) the historical and cultural effects of the
2323 principles of the Texas Constitution and the traditions of state
2424 government.
2525 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
