 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to Texas History Month curriculum requirements for
 students in public schools.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is
 amended by adding Section 28.0025 to read as follows:
 Sec. 28.0025.  TEXAS HISTORY MONTH INSTRUCTION. As part of
 the essential knowledge and skills of the social studies curriculum
 under Section 28.002(a)(1)(D), the State Board of Education by rule
 shall establish elements relating to instruction during Texas
 History Month, as provided by Section 662.102, Government Code.
 The instructional elements must include:
 (1) the principles of the Texas Constitution;
 (2) the traditions of state government;
 (3)  the differences between the Texas Constitution and
 the United States Constitution; and
 (4)  the historical and cultural effects of the
 principles of the Texas Constitution and the traditions of state
 government.
 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
