A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to requiring instruction on the use of traffic circles.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 1001, Education Code, is
amended by adding Section 1001.109 to read as follows:
Sec. 1001.109. INFORMATION RELATING TO TRAFFIC CIRCLES.
(a) The commissioner by rule shall require that information
relating to the proper procedure for approaching, driving through,
and yielding the right-of-way at a traffic circle be included in the
curriculum of each driver education and driving safety course.
(b) The department shall include the information required
by Subsection (a) in any edition of the Texas driver's handbook
published after the department exhausts the supply of the handbook
that the department had on September 1, 2009.
(c) In developing rules under this section, the
commissioner shall consult with the department.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
