7 | 7 | | relating to a study of the proportion of this state's electric |
---|
8 | 8 | | energy that can be generated using renewable energy technology. |
---|
9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. The state energy conservation office shall |
---|
11 | 11 | | conduct a study to determine how not less than 25 percent of this |
---|
12 | 12 | | state's electric energy may be generated by renewable energy |
---|
13 | 13 | | technologies by January 1, 2025. |
---|
14 | 14 | | SECTION 2. The state energy conservation office, in |
---|
15 | 15 | | conducting the study, shall examine costs and efficiencies of |
---|
16 | 16 | | available renewable energy technologies for electric energy |
---|
17 | 17 | | generation and shall recommend legislative and administrative |
---|
18 | 18 | | policy changes necessary to achieve the goal of having not less than |
---|
19 | 19 | | 25 percent of this state's electric energy generated by renewable |
---|
20 | 20 | | energy technologies by January 1, 2025. |
---|
21 | 21 | | SECTION 3. The state energy conservation office shall |
---|
22 | 22 | | consult with the Public Utility Commission of Texas in conducting |
---|
23 | 23 | | the study. The commission shall cooperate with the office in |
---|
24 | 24 | | conducting the study. |
---|
25 | 25 | | SECTION 4. The state energy conservation office shall |
---|
26 | 26 | | present the office's report to the governor, the lieutenant |
---|
27 | 27 | | governor, and the speaker of the house of representatives not later |
---|
28 | 28 | | than January 1, 2011. |
---|
29 | 29 | | SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
30 | 30 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
31 | 31 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
32 | 32 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
33 | 33 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
