| 7 | 7 | | relating to a study of the proportion of this state's electric |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | energy that can be generated using renewable energy technology. |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. The state energy conservation office shall |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | conduct a study to determine how not less than 25 percent of this |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | state's electric energy may be generated by renewable energy |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | technologies by January 1, 2025. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | SECTION 2. The state energy conservation office, in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | conducting the study, shall examine costs and efficiencies of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | available renewable energy technologies for electric energy |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | generation and shall recommend legislative and administrative |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | policy changes necessary to achieve the goal of having not less than |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 25 percent of this state's electric energy generated by renewable |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | energy technologies by January 1, 2025. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 3. The state energy conservation office shall |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | consult with the Public Utility Commission of Texas in conducting |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the study. The commission shall cooperate with the office in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | conducting the study. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 4. The state energy conservation office shall |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | present the office's report to the governor, the lieutenant |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | governor, and the speaker of the house of representatives not later |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | than January 1, 2011. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
