55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to a study of the proportion of this state's electric
88 energy that can be generated using renewable energy technology.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. The state energy conservation office shall
1111 conduct a study to determine how not less than 25 percent of this
1212 state's electric energy may be generated by renewable energy
1313 technologies by January 1, 2025.
1414 SECTION 2. The state energy conservation office, in
1515 conducting the study, shall examine costs and efficiencies of
1616 available renewable energy technologies for electric energy
1717 generation and shall recommend legislative and administrative
1818 policy changes necessary to achieve the goal of having not less than
1919 25 percent of this state's electric energy generated by renewable
2020 energy technologies by January 1, 2025.
2121 SECTION 3. The state energy conservation office shall
2222 consult with the Public Utility Commission of Texas in conducting
2323 the study. The commission shall cooperate with the office in
2424 conducting the study.
2525 SECTION 4. The state energy conservation office shall
2626 present the office's report to the governor, the lieutenant
2727 governor, and the speaker of the house of representatives not later
2828 than January 1, 2011.
2929 SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3030 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3131 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3232 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3333 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
