| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 61.96231(c), Education Code, is amended |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (c) In awarding a grant under this section, the board: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) shall give priority to providing to qualified |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | professional nursing program faculty members at public junior |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | colleges salary supplements and enhancements in an amount and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | manner that achieves parity of their salaries with the salaries of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | similar faculty members at general academic teaching institutions |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and medical and dental units; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (2) subject to the priority provided by Subdivision |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (1), may require matching funds from [a] professional nursing |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | programs at institutions of higher education other than public |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | junior colleges [program] or may give preference [in awarding a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | grant] to professional nursing programs at those institutions [a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | program] providing matching funds. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
