66 AN ACT
77 relating to salary supplements and enhancements for qualified
88 professional nursing program faculty members at public junior
99 colleges.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 61.96231(c), Education Code, is amended
1212 to read as follows:
1313 (c) In awarding a grant under this section, the board:
1414 (1) shall give priority to providing to qualified
1515 professional nursing program faculty members at public junior
1616 colleges salary supplements and enhancements in an amount and
1717 manner that achieves parity of their salaries with the salaries of
1818 similar faculty members at general academic teaching institutions
1919 and medical and dental units; and
2020 (2) subject to the priority provided by Subdivision
2121 (1), may require matching funds from [a] professional nursing
2222 programs at institutions of higher education other than public
2323 junior colleges [program] or may give preference [in awarding a
2424 grant] to professional nursing programs at those institutions [a
2525 program] providing matching funds.
2626 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2727 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2828 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2929 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3030 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
