A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to salary supplements and enhancements for qualified
professional nursing program faculty members at public junior
colleges.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 61.96231(c), Education Code, is amended
to read as follows:
(c) In awarding a grant under this section, the board:
(1) shall give priority to providing to qualified
professional nursing program faculty members at public junior
colleges salary supplements and enhancements in an amount and
manner that achieves parity of their salaries with the salaries of
similar faculty members at general academic teaching institutions
and medical and dental units; and
(2) subject to the priority provided by Subdivision
(1), may require matching funds from [a] professional nursing
programs at institutions of higher education other than public
junior colleges [program] or may give preference [in awarding a
grant] to professional nursing programs at those institutions [a
program] providing matching funds.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
