A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the authority of certain counties to establish economic
development projects or create improvement districts to construct
educational facilities.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 372.105, Local Government Code, is
amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
(d) A county with a population of more than 850,000 and less
than 1.4 million by order may establish an economic development
project or create a district under this subchapter to build an
educational facility to accomplish the economic development
purposes prescribed by Section 52a, Article III, Texas
Constitution.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
