55 relating to license plates created by the Texas Department of
66 Transportation for professional firefighters.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 504, Transportation Code,
99 is amended by adding Section 504.414 to read as follows:
1010 Sec. 504.414. PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTER PLATES. (a) The
1111 professional firefighter plate may be issued to qualified
1212 firefighters. The sponsor of the plate may nominate a state agency
1313 for receipt of funds under Section 504.801(e)(2)(A).
1414 (b) After deduction of the department's administrative
1515 costs in accordance with Section 504.801, the remainder of the fees
1616 from the sale of professional firefighter plates shall be deposited
1717 to the credit of an account in the state treasury to be used by the
1818 nominated state agency for the purpose of making grants to support
1919 the activities of an organization of professional firefighters
2020 located in this state that provides emergency relief and college
2121 scholarship funds to the professional firefighters and their
2222 dependents.
2323 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2424 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2525 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2626 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2727 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
