 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to notice of the leave policies of a school district to
 district employees.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 22, Education Code, is
 amended by adding Section 22.008 to read as follows:
 Sec. 22.008.  NOTICE OF LEAVE POLICY. (a)  A school district
 shall provide written notice to any district employee regarding the
 types of leave the employee is entitled to while employed by the
 district. The notice must include:
 (1)  an explanation of the district's policies
 regarding leave; and
 (2) a description of:
 (A)  the personal leave the employee is entitled
 to as provided by Section 22.003;
 (B)  the leave allowed for jury service as
 provided by Section 22.006; and
 (C)  the leave allowed for complying with a
 subpoena as provided by Section 52.051(a), Labor Code.
 (b)  If the employee is an educator certified under Chapter
 21, the notice must also include a description of leave allowed for:
 (1)  observance of a religious holiday as provided by
 Section 21.406;
 (2)  a temporary disability as provided by Section
 21.409; and
 (3)  training and developmental purposes as provided by
 Section 21.452.
 (c)  The notice required by this section must be given to a
 school district employee not later than the 10th day after the date
 the employee is hired by the district.
 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
