A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the operations of the office of independent ombudsman
for the Texas Youth Commission.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 64.054, Human Resources Code, is amended
to read as follows:
Sec. 64.054. SUNSET PROVISION. The office is subject to
review under Chapter 325, Government Code (Texas Sunset Act), but
is not abolished under that chapter. The office shall be reviewed
during the periods in which state agencies abolished in 2015 [2009]
and every 12th year after 2015 [2009] are reviewed.
SECTION 2. Subchapter B, Chapter 64, Human Resources Code,
is amended by adding Section 64.060 to read as follows:
Sec. 64.060. COMPLAINTS. (a) The office shall maintain a
system to promptly and efficiently act on complaints filed with the
office that relate to the operations or staff of the office. The
office shall maintain information about parties to the complaint,
the subject matter of the complaint, a summary of the results of the
review or investigation of the complaint, and its disposition.
(b) The office shall make information available describing
its procedures for complaint investigation and resolution.
(c) The office shall periodically notify the complaint
parties of the status of the complaint until final disposition.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
