55 relating to requirements for expedited credentialing of certain
66 physicians by managed care plans.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Section 1452.101(5), Insurance Code, is amended
99 to read as follows:
1010 (5) "Medical group" means:
1111 (A) a single legal entity owned by two or more
1212 physicians;
1313 (B) a professional association composed of
1414 licensed physicians; [corporation] or
1515 (C) any other business entity composed of
1616 licensed physicians as permitted under Subchapter B, Chapter 162,
1717 Occupations Code.
1818 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
1919 to credentialing of a physician under a contract entered into or
2020 renewed by a medical group and an issuer of a managed care plan on or
2121 after the effective date of this Act. A contract entered into or
2222 renewed before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law
2323 in effect immediately before that date, and that law is continued in
2424 effect for that purpose.
2525 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
