| 5 | 5 | | relating to memorial monuments on the Capitol grounds, including |

| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 443, Government Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | adding Section 443.01525 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Sec. 443.01525. TEJANO MEMORIAL MONUMENT. The State |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Preservation Board shall establish a Tejano memorial monument on |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the historic south grounds of the Capitol that pays tribute to the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | contributions of Tejanos to the State of Texas. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | SECTION 2. Section 443.0152, Government Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (a-1) Except as provided by Sections 443.01525 and 448.034, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | after September 1, 2009, no additional monuments may be placed on |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the historic grounds of the Capitol. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
