55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the appointment of a municipal judge in the City of
88 Lubbock.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 30.00044(b), Government Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (b) The governing body shall by ordinance appoint a [A]
1313 municipal judge [is elected by the qualified voters of the city] for
1414 a term of four years.
1515 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act to Section
1616 30.00044, Government Code, applies only to a vacancy in the office
1717 of municipal judge in the City of Lubbock that occurs on or after
1818 the effective date of this Act. A person serving as a municipal
1919 judge in the City of Lubbock on the effective date of this Act
2020 continues to serve in that office for the remainder of the term to
2121 which the person was elected or appointed, unless otherwise removed
2222 as provided by law.
2323 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
