 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the appointment of a municipal judge in the City of
 Lubbock.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1. Section 30.00044(b), Government Code, is amended
 to read as follows:
 (b) The governing body shall by ordinance appoint a [A]
 municipal judge [is elected by the qualified voters of the city] for
 a term of four years.
 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act to Section
 30.00044, Government Code, applies only to a vacancy in the office
 of municipal judge in the City of Lubbock that occurs on or after
 the effective date of this Act. A person serving as a municipal
 judge in the City of Lubbock on the effective date of this Act
 continues to serve in that office for the remainder of the term to
 which the person was elected or appointed, unless otherwise removed
 as provided by law.
 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
