| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 502, Transportation Code, | |
| 11 | 11 | is amended by adding Section 502.1746 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 502.1746. VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION TO POLITICAL PARTY. | |
| 13 | 13 | (a) When a person registers a motor vehicle under this chapter, | |
| 14 | 14 | the person is entitled to make a voluntary contribution in any | |
| 15 | 15 | amount to a political party designated by the person, but only if a | |
| 16 | 16 | nominee of the political party was a candidate for a statewide | |
| 17 | 17 | office in the preceding general election for state and county | |
| 18 | 18 | officers. | |
| 19 | 19 | (b) The county assessor-collector shall send a contribution | |
| 20 | 20 | collected under this section to the secretary of state, who shall | |
| 21 | 21 | remit the contribution to the treasurer of the designated political | |
| 22 | 22 | party. | |
| 23 | 23 | (c) The secretary of state may adopt rules and forms to | |
| 24 | 24 | administer this section. | |
| 25 | 25 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
