8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 241, Health and Safety | |
10 | 10 | Code, is amended by adding Section 241.0051 to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | Sec. 241.0051. EMPLOYMENT OF PHYSICIANS. A hospital | |
12 | 12 | located in a county with a population of less than 100,000 that | |
13 | 13 | borders the United Mexican States may employ physicians or other | |
14 | 14 | health care providers as the hospital considers necessary for the | |
15 | 15 | efficient operation of the hospital. This section may not be | |
16 | 16 | construed as authorizing the hospital to supervise or control the | |
17 | 17 | practice of medicine, as prohibited by Subtitle B, Title 3, | |
18 | 18 | Occupations Code. | |
19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
20 | 20 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
21 | 21 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
22 | 22 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
23 | 23 | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
